Macbeth is an Australian 2006 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth
Geoffrey Wright directed the film Macbeth in 2006. It was a modern day version of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It was set in Melbourne, Victoria. The cast members used their original Australian accents as members of Melbourne’s gangster community instead of Shakespeare’s Scotland setting. The film was released in Australia on September 21, 2006. The film’s stars were Sam Worthington, Victoria Hill and Lachy Hulme.
Mr. Wright and Ms. Hill wrote the screenplay together. They did manage to retain much of Shakespeare’s language in the Melbourne Gangster subculture and the native Australian accents. The film was chosen to play at the September 2006 Toronto International film festival. (image source: wikipedia)
